When I listened to Dr. Cornel West describe George Floyd's murder as a lynching at the highest levels, I couldn't help but reflect on Malcolm X's speech, the Ballot or the Bullet. We are at an inflection point, where America has to decide if she will cling to white supremacy or truly provide justice for all. What a confluence of events has transpired to lead to an exasperation, rage and action by the people. The lynching of Ahmaud Arbery by three thugs covered up by the criminal injustice system in Brunswick, Georgia, then the state sanctioned murder of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky and the another murder caught live on camera where the murderer choked the breath from George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a casualness that suggested extreme malice and a feeling of invincibility was too much to bear. If someone can be killed in such a callous manner with impunity, no one is safe especially black Americans. In some ways the term black Americans sounds like an oxymoron. If blacks were treated with respect that the Constitution claims we posses, we wouldn't be here. So we must ask a critical question, are we a society of laws or does anything go? Does the second amendment apply to everybody? It's time for the pretense to end, either we receive justice or let's end the charade of liberty and justice for all.
