Can we (black people or people of African descent) have confidence in the social structures? Many will respond with a resounding, no!!! Many of us felt the angst where we questioned the outcome of the McMichaels and Bryan's trial - the killers of Ahmaud Arbery -and breathed a collective sigh of relief when the verdict was read. The fact that the case of a black man killed in broad daylight was not a formality, speaks to the inability of the justice system to make accountability for black people the rule and not the exception. Yesterday, Kim Potter was sentenced to 16 months in prison, 8 months supervised home release, $1,000 fine and $78 surcharge for the killing of Daunte Wright. Judge Regina Chu cried for Potter and implored for Wright's family to walk in Potter's shoes. She did her best to explain why Potter did not deserve a tougher sentence. And yet we see cases where black people are sentenced to far longer sentences for lesser crimes. Judge Chu became an apologist for Potter and didn't suggest Potter walk in Daunte's parents or his child's mother's shoes. Tears for the killer not for the family. That's what happens when there are no human's involved. You have to see the humanity of the person to care. But those in the Brooklyn Center area have an opportunity to vote this judge out and choose someone who truly believes all lives matter, not the racist reactionary phrase, but centers the humanity of all, without equivocation.

Here is the video of Trevor Noah that she is referencing.
